UNCF (United Negro College Fund) will host its 2025 “A Mind Is…”® Seattle Gala this Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Seattle, located at 808 Howell St., Seattle, WA 98101. This annual fundraising event will bring together corporate partners, educators, religious leaders, and community leaders to support students and historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). Proceeds will benefit UNCF-member HBCUs and college students in the Pacific Northwest and across the United States.
For more than 80 years, UNCF has worked to increase access to higher education by providing students with the resources necessary to enter and complete college. The “A Mind Is…”® Seattle Gala directly supports this mission, helping to strengthen a diverse and highly educated workforce.
“As America faces unprecedented challenges, HBCUs continue to prove their value in driving economic growth and strengthening communities,” said Dr. Michael L. Lomax, president and CEO of UNCF. “Yet, these institutions remain underfunded, and their students often struggle to access the same opportunities as others. Your support is more critical than ever to help talented, deserving students succeed. I encourage you to invest in UNCF so we can empower the next generation of leaders. Events like the Seattle ‘A Mind Is…’ Gala make this possible.”
The event will feature an evening of live entertainment, student testimonials, and scholarship presentations. Approximately 45 scholarship recipients will be in attendance to share their experiences and highlight the impact of UNCF’s support. The Outstanding Leadership Counsel Awards will be presented, recognizing individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to education and equity.
Entertainment for the night will include performances by Zach Bruce and the NSB Band, DJ Sounds by Bri, and student singer Maya Russell. The gala is co-chaired by La Shanda Hurst, senior program manager for community relations and sponsorships at Microsoft Philanthropies, and Jesse Rhodes, strategic risk executive at Amazon.
For those unable to attend but wishing to support students, donations can be made at uncf.org/SeattleGive. To stay connected with UNCF throughout the year, visit uncf.org/Seattle and follow the event on social media using #UNCF on Instagram (@uncf_pacificnw) or Facebook (UNCF-PNWA).
